Frequently Asked Questions
Providing Everything You Need

What is Shibari?
Shibari is a Japanese rope art form rooted in presence, trust and connection. In this retreat we explore it not as performance or technique alone, but as a somatic practice — a way of listening to the body, releasing what it holds, and expressing what words cannot reach. Think of it as meditation, art and self-discovery woven together through rope.
Do I need any experience with Shibari?
None at all. This retreat is designed for all levels — complete beginners to those with some exposure. What matters is not what you know but your curiosity, openness and willingness.

Is this a sexual experience?
This retreat explores sensuality — which is not the same as sexuality. Sensuality is your relationship with your own body, your senses, your presence and your pleasure. All experiences are consensual, boundaried and held in a safe, intentional container. You are always in control of what you explore.

What does a typical day looks like?
Each day has its own theme and flow — mornings typically begin with movement or meditation, followed by a Shibari workshop, then afternoon nature immersions or sensory explorations, and evenings of creative expression, ceremony or circle. Full itinerary is available on the website.
Will I be tied by someone else?
You will have the opportunity to explore both self-tying and partner Shibari — always with full consent, clear communication and at your own pace. Nothing is ever required. You choose how deeply you engage.

What if I have trauma or a sensitive history with my body?
Many women who come to my events are healing from something. This space is trauma-informed, gentle and non-pressuring. If you have specific concerns, reach out before booking so we can discuss whether this experience is the right fit for where you are right now.

What if I feel overwhelmed during a session?
You are never alone in this. My team and I are present and attuned throughout every experience. There is always space to pause, step back or simply witness rather than participate. Integration support is woven into the retreat structure.
Where exactly is the retreat located?
The retreat takes place at Flo Retreat Center in Uvita, Costa Rica — nestled in the jungle with exclusive access to all amenities including expansive relaxation areas, pool, gym, communal spaces, cacao forest and nature trails that lead to 3 different waterfalls.

What is included in the price?
Everything except your flights. Accommodations, all meals prepared by a private chef, all workshops and activities, nature excursions, transportation from SJO, your personal Shibari set to take home and more. Full inclusions are listed on the website.

Can I have a private session?
Yes. Private Shibari sessions with personalized guidance are available during the retreat for deeper individual exploration.
Can I attend if I am not physically fit or have physical limitations?
Absolutely. This retreat meets you exactly where your body is. Shibari and the somatic practices we explore are adaptable and are not dependent on fitness level, flexibility or physical ability. If you have specific physical considerations or injuries please reach out before booking so we can ensure your experience is fully supported and tailored to your needs.

Will I have time alone and space to integrate?
Yes — intentionally. Rest and integration are built into the retreat structure. While each day is rich with experience, there is always space to step away, journal, sit in nature or simply be. The jungle itself is one of the most restorative environments you can be in. You will never feel rushed or pressured to be "on." Some of the most profound moments of this retreat happen in the quiet spaces between.
