About Shibari

What is Shibari?

Shibari is a Japanese rope art form rooted in presence, trust and connection. My approach explores it not as performance or technique alone, but as a somatic practice — a way of listening to the body, releasing what it holds, and expressing what words cannot reach. Think of it as meditation, art and self-discovery woven together through rope.

Do I need any experience with Shibari?

None at all. My experiences are designed for all levels — complete beginners to those with exposure to Shibari. What matters is not experience, but curiosity, openness, and a willingness to explore your relationship with yourself, others, and the art of conscious rope.

Is this a sexual experience?

Shibari explores sensuality which is not the same as sexuality. Sensuality is your relationship with your own body, your senses, your presence and your pleasure. All experiences are consensual, boundaried and held in a safe, intentional container. You are always in control of what you explore.

Who are your retreats designed for?

Bound to Nature retreats are designed for those who feel called to explore themselves more deeply through embodiment, connection, nature, and the transformative art of Shibari.

These experiences are for individuals seeking more than a vacation or a traditional wellness retreat. They are for those who desire a space to slow down, reconnect with their bodies, cultivate self-trust, express themselves authentically, and step beyond the limitations of their comfort zones.

No previous Shibari experience is required. Participants come from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, united by a shared intention for conscious exploration.  There are currently two retreat formats available: Women's Bound to Nature, created exclusively for women seeking a space for self-discovery, empowerment, and personal transformation; and Blended Bound to Nature, open to couples, friends, and individuals of all genders who wish to explore connection, communication, trust, and conscious rope together.

What makes Bound to Nature retreats unique?

Bound to Nature is more than your typical Shibari retreat. What makes these retreats unique is the way Shibari is approached. Rather than focusing solely on technique education, Bound to Nature uses rope as a tool for authentic human connection and creativity.

The experience is designed to help participants explore not only their relationship with rope, but also their relationship with themselves, others, and the natural world around them. Set in some of Costa Rica's most breathtaking natural environments, each retreat blends immersive Shibari experiences with adventure, reflection, community, and nature-based exploration.

Whether sharing stories beneath the stars, standing beneath a waterfall, tying among the trees, or witnessing your own reflection in each other, every element is intentionally woven together to create a meaningful and memorable journey.

What happens during a private Shibari session?

Each private Shibari session is a personalized experience tailored to your intentions, comfort level, and previous experience. Sessions begin with a conversation about your goals, questions, boundaries, and what you hope to explore through the practice.

Throughout the session, there is no expectation to perform or achieve a particular outcome. Many participants leave with a greater sense of presence, self understanding, confidence, connection and appreciation for their bodies. Each session is designed to create a meaningful experience aligned with your intentions.

What if I feel overwhelmed during a session?

You are never alone in this. Your well-being is always the priority. Shibari can be a deeply meaningful experience that may bring up a wide range of emotions, sensations, or unexpected insights. If at any point you feel overwhelmed, uncomfortable, emotional, or simply need a pause, you are encouraged to communicate that openly.

Sessions are guided at a pace that respects your needs and boundaries. We can pause, adjust, slow down, take breaks, change direction, or stop entirely if needed. There is never any pressure to push through discomfort or continue beyond what feels right for you. Sometimes the most valuable part of a session is not the rope itself, but learning to listen to yourself, communicate your needs, and honor your limits with compassion and confidence.

What if I have trauma or a sensitive history with my body?

Many women who come to me are healing from something. Many are navigating stories of loss, heartbreak, trauma, body shame, burnout, or significant life transitions.

My approach is trauma-informed, gentle, and rooted in choice, consent, and personal agency. There is never pressure to participate in anything beyond what feels right for you, and you are always encouraged to honor your boundaries, communicate your needs, and move at your own pace.

If you have specific concerns, physical limitations, or questions about whether an experience is a good fit for you, I encourage you to reach out before booking. Together, we can discuss your needs and determine whether the experience aligns with where you are on your journey right now.

Classes & Workshops

DSC00822.JPEG

What makes your approach different?

While you will learn rope techniques, my approach to Shibari goes far beyond knots, patterns, and positions. I teach Shibari as a language and ritual of connection.

Technical skills are important, but they are woven together with the relational and embodied aspects that make Shibari such a transformative practice.  In my classes, students are encouraged to develop not only their skills, but also their ability to communicate clearly, listen deeply, adapt creatively and cultivate meaningful connection.

What can I expect from a Shibari class or workshop?

Shibari classes are interactive, hands-on learning experienced designed to help you develop both technical rope skills and a deeper understanding of somatic awareness.

Depending on the level and theme of class/workshop, you may learn foundational knots, safety principles, rope handling techniques, body mechanics, tying patterns and the principles that support a safe and enjoyable practice.

Workshops also explore topics such as consent, trust, communication and mindful connection.

Shibari workshops are interactive, hands-on learning experiunication, creativity, and mindful connection.
